1. REAL AUDIO: INTRO PLUS SOME CHRISTIAN PROGRAMS AND SERMONS
There are a number of different sound formats used on the
World Wide Web. One such format is MP3, introduced in an
earlier issue of CATI:
CATI: The MP3 Music Revolution on the Internet: The Basics
  http://www.traver.org/cati/archives/cati02.htm#4
Another popular format is MIDI, a music format also covered
in an earlier issue of CATI:
CATI: MIDI Music Files: An Introduction
  http://www.traver.org/cati/archives/cati09.htm#1
In this issue we will look at RealAudio, a format that is used
for speech, music, radio programs, etc.
To be able to hear RealAudio broadcasts on the Web, you need
to download and install a RealAudio player. Here's where you
will find the home page for the company that makes RealPlayer
software:
Real.com
  http://www.real.com/
Unfortunately, the Real.com site makes it a bit difficult to
locate the free version of RealPlayer. You need to be aware
that you don't need to download one of the "Plus" products,
such as RealPlayer Plus. They cost money, but RealPlayer
Basic (the free version) ought to be adequate for most people.
Although you can download RealPlayer Basic at the Real.com
site, here is another (and perhaps an easier) place where
you can download the free version (and read more about how
RealAudio has evolved as well):
Stroud's CWSApps: RealPlayer
  http://cws.internet.com/avstream-realplay.html
(Notice that a Windows 3.x version is available in addition to
the Windows 95/98/NT version. If you have Windows 3.x, you
should download that version instead.)
I won't be going into any of the details of downloading and
installing RealPlayer in this article, but if you're unsure of
yourself in that area, you may find helpful the resources that
I mentioned in this CATI article:
CATI: The Internet: Guides for Beginners
  http://www.traver.org/cati/archives/cati21.htm#1
In particular, the following pages provide assistance on how
to download:
Learn the Net: How to Download Files
  http://www.learnthenet.com/english/section/download.html
Net 101: All About Downloading
 http://specials.about.com/channels/internet/net101/lesson5_index.htm
You shouldn't run into any problems, but if you download and
install RealPlayer and it doesn't seem to be doing what it's
supposed to do, you may want to check out the following:
RealAudio Media Help from R.C. Sproul
  http://www.gospelcom.net/ligonier/rahelp.html
The primary purpose of this article is to suggest some places
on the Web where you can find links to Christian sermons and
programs in RealAudio format.
Here's the list (in alphabetical order):
Abate Not: Reformed Christianity RealAudio Sites
Family Radio Audio Library; The White Horse Inn; The Bible
Study Hour; Real Audio Sermons; First Presbyterian of Rowlet;
Reformed Sovereign Grace Audio Sermons, Lectures, and Psalters;

return (D.V.) at a future time.

2. WORLD MAGAZINE: A CHRISTIAN MAGAZINE WORTH CHECKING OUT!
WORLD MAGAZINE is one of our favorite magazines, and has been
since we first subscribed some years ago. Here's how WORLD
describes what it is and what it does;
"World Magazine
reports news you won't find anywhere else
is a sharp, full-color news weekly
helps readers think biblically about the world around them
is 'helping fuel the revival of America's character'
    --Alan Keyes
is like TIME or Newsweek, but from a Christian perspective
is read by some of the most influential people in the
    country"
      http://www.worldmag.com/world/meta/about/pr.asp
Here are some endorsements of WORLD from that same page:
"WORLD is the liveliest magazine covering politics and culture
from a Christian perspective. I read WORLD every week."
  --Gary Bauer
"WORLD is a terrific magazine. It deals with important cultural
issues in a morally sound, journalistically responsible, and
interesting way."
  --William J. Bennett
"WORLD is an excellent magazine that gives readers a rare
balanced perspective. I look forward to reading WORLD each week
and often share information from the articles it contains."
  --Larry Burkett
"WORLD has material that is of interest to Christians and
non-Christians alike and does the best job I've seen of
stimulating thought, encouraging action, and reporting news
from a perspective that is available virtually nowhere else."
  --Cal Thomas
And here's a comment from WORLD's Editor:
"There was a time in earlier parts of American history when
Christian journalists were bold to assert their view of things
as it applied to public affairs. WORLD seeks to do again what
those courageous journalists once did."
  --Marvin Olasky, Editor
If you're interested in learning more about these two Christian
journalists, Marvin Olasky and Cal Thomas (both of whom write
regularly for WORLD), you can check this article in a previous
issue of CATI:
Christians in Journalism: Colson, Olasky, and Thomas
  http://www.traver.org/cati/archives/cati10.htm#3
In that article I mentioned that you don't have to go to the
bookstore (or library) to read some good books by Dr. Olasky:
you can access two of his books on journalism online:
Marvin Olasky, Telling the Truth: How to Revitalize Christian
    Journalism
  http://www.worldmag.com/world/olasky/truth1.html
Marvin Olasky, Prodigal Press: The Anti-Christian Bias of
    American News Media
  http://www.worldmag.com/world/olasky/Prodigal/index.html
Well, make that now three of his books, for one more is now
available!:
Marvin Olasky, Central Ideas in the Development of American
    Journalism: A Narrative History
  http://www.worldmag.com/world/olasky/centralideas/index.html
Getting back to WORLD, some other authors whose names you may
see appearing in WORLD on a regular basis include Joel Belz,
Mindy Belz, Bob Jones IV, Nancy Pearcey, Edward Plowman, Susan
Olasky, and Gene Edward Veith.
Here's where you'll find WORLD's home page as well as links to
articles in the current issue:
WORLD MAGAZINE
  http://www.worldmag.com/world/home.asp
And here's where you'll find links to past issues of WORLD:
WORLD MAGAZINE Archived Issues
  http://www.worldmag.com/world/meta/archives/
In addition to good news coverage and great editorials, you'll
find book and movie reviews, letters to the editor, and more.
You're invited to browse WORLD online. I think you'll find
many helpful and enjoyable articles.
If you're a serious reader, here is a particular article of
interest you will not want to miss:
The Century's Top 100 Books
  http://www.worldmag.com/world/issue/12-04-99/cover_1.asp
Finally, if you like WORLD enough that you would really like
to subscribe to the magazine, check out this page (and note
that there are different subscription rates):
